Tomato Basil Sauce

Serve this delicious homemade tomato basil steak sauce recipe for your Heartland Certified Angus Beef® as a hearty substitute for bottled steak sauces.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil
  • 4 each garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped sweet onion
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) finely chopped carrots
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) finely chopped red pepper
  • 8 ripe plum tomatoes; seeded and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sugar
  • Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) fresh basil, coarsely chopped

Directions

  1. Sweat garlic, onion and carrots in olive oil in medium size sauce or stockpot. (It is very important to use only stainless steel when cooking with high acidic foods.)
  2. Add red pepper, tomatoes and sugar.
  3. Cook on low heat for 45 minutes, adjust seasoning and add basil.
