Burgers, Cuban-Style

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds Heartland Steaks steak burgers
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup good quality mayonnaise
  • 3 cloves pureed roasted garlic
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 4 classic hamburger buns
  • Thinly sliced Swiss cheese
  • Smoked ham, thinly sliced
  • 2 dill pickles, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • Directions
    1. Preheat grill to high and season steak burgers with salt and pepper on each side.
    2. Grill for a few minutes on each side for medium and remove burgers from heat when done. Set grill to medium-low.
    3. Combine mayo and garlic in a small bowl and season with salt and pepper. Spread each bun with mayo and mustard.
    4. Place a slice of cheese on the bottom half of each bun, put the burger on top of the cheese, and then place sliced ham, cheese, and pickle slices.
    5. The bun tops should go over the pickles. Wrap burgers in foil and place on grill.
    6. Using a heavy pan or brick wrapped in foil, press down on burgers for up to one minute.
    7. Lower grill lid and grill for another couple minutes or until the cheese melts and the bun is pressed and firm.
